history

Courthouse Youth Arts Centre was officially opened on 26th November 1996.
We’re located in the cultural heart of Geelong at the historic former Geelong Law Courts and Police Station on the corner of Gheringhap and Little Malop Streets.
We provide a safe, welcoming and affordable environment for young people, free from alcohol and drugs.
The organisation was established as a not for profit organisation with the purpose of being Geelong’s number one venue for youth arts and culture.  Courthouse Youth Arts Centre Inc. is overseen by a voluntary board of management that is accountable to its membership base (young people).
We’re entering a new era over the next three years 2010 – 2012, with radical upgrades at the Courthouse which will see us emerge as Victoria’s only non-commercial, cutting-edge theatre, performance/gallery space, rehearsal studio, multi media and recording studio, for young artists – all under one roof.

We depend on the generosity of foundations, trusts, individuals, businesses, and government to exist.
Courthouse Arts has receives funding from the City of Greater Geelong, Arts Victoria, the Australia Council for the Arts, the Department of Planning and Community Development as well as several other Philanthropic organisations and individuals.
