Courthouse ARTS member, Reuben Stone has just returned from headlining gigs with symphonic black metal band Lamort in New Zealand. They played with New Zealand bands Bullet Belt and  Dying of Light, and Geelong brother band, Damnations Day.

Lamort has been a part of Courthouse ARTS‘ history for several years, having won the Battle of the Bands. Reuben joined them after their keyboardist left two years ago - he was already a fan.

Reuben isn’t quite sure when he learned to play music. He just remembers sitting down at a piano one day and playing. Entirely self taught, he modestly explains that his mastery of the instrument has little to do with talent and more to do with hard work. Anyone who saw him attack the piano at Courthouse ARTS’ Unplugged this year might disagree.

Reuben took a number of Lamort songs and played them classically. Yes. Classical renditions of symphonic black metal songs. It was a show stopper.

Reuben’s successes continue, having been accepted into Oxygen College next year, where he’ll study Diplomas of Music and Sound Production for the next eighteen months. Lamort will play at Caos ACT next year and Reuben will be seen playing at New Years Revolution in January at Courthouse ARTS.
